Some are better snackhunters than others.
Yeah so most drinks on store shelves are pretty bad. Apparently even vitamin water has been made to specifically cause you pain. The companies could argue that cramming the absolute largest amount of sugar or corn syrup OR high fructose corn syrup is what YOU asked them to do. In the many official taste tests you’ve given over the years. Right?
Thank goodness for eventual backlash. We’re wearing down the drink companies very slowly. On a stint to the Philippines, I was worried I’d be only able to try extreme sweet drinks if I wanted something new. I have plenty of experience with their snacks so I didn’t have expectations of subtlety. At 7-11 in Manilla I picked up a bottle of C2 Cool & Clean Green Tea.
I was told at first it was a good choice because it was unsweetened. And it’s not. Still if they gotta be sweet, at least they worked it out a little better.
An aside, don’t believe the whole anti-oxidants BS. People are paid to visit forums and review sites to post fake positive outcomes. Wanna be healthy, then avoid drinks with sweetness, unless you blended the raw fruits yourself. Get your anti-oxidants from plants. </end side rant>
But a few fake reviews of people gushing over healthy effects doesn’t mean products don’t have positive qualities. C2 has cut the sugar of usual teas by half easily. And hence why I brought this whole thing up!
You need to always check the calories, which are always from sugar, or HFCS. And you NEED to check the number of servings on the bottle. Of course you’ve been looking at the calories on the back, but that bottle might be 2.5 servings. This shady practice is unacceptable. Still you have to read. When you get your chance to murder the marketer liars who did this and then pushed to get permission to keep doing it, enjoy the moment. I’ll be thrilled. For now, just remember to calculate it.
C2 is 90 calories for the 16oz bottle. To compare, normally it you’d drink a 12oz soda at no less than 140 calories. Oh yeah that other tea or juice you’ve been favoring because it’s NotSoda yeah that was probably 220 calories.
The key here is the drink is more satisfying with less sugar. It goes with more foods, and you’ll more likely let your kid have a few sips. So for the companies that look long term and work hard, they will sell more.
There are few saints in the drinks world. And I’m not sure Universal Robina Corp are doing more than just business-as-usual. But there are better decisions that have been made and it’s important to show them and promote the resulting product. It pressures others into be less destructive with sugar in your drinks. Cheers!
Instructables may not be known to have DIY snacking projects, but there are a few on there. This one hit the mark with us. A nice idea and perfect for the summer days we’ve been enjoying.

The article below is about the Top 5 Addictive Foods, though somewhat correct is horrible.

They lump junk food as the number one food. Er Ok. That’s helpful. The point is to narrow what the real problems are with snack foods. Some people don’t even know what’s good and bad about certain foods. And this ‘brainy’ article did nothing for us in that regard. I don’t even know why I’m linking to it. The next major problem with it, it’s basically set up to get multiple unnecessary page views, and as a result, advertising money (for no quality services rendered from a journalism or research point of view). The article could have been summarized in two paragraphs, but they instead separated across 5 pages. They have no respect for you the reader.
Do me a favor. Click on this feedback page for the article and complain.
I’ve been bored of a lot of juices for quite a while. I think you are too. Here’s a new one that might help us reinvent ourselves. Not an organic or healthy choice by any measure, but still fun and tasty in moderation. Ocean Spray Ruby Pomegranate Juice is one flavor I hope will be around for a while. Not really in the mood to describe at the moment. It’s new to me so it seems original. I dig it, what else can I say? I hope you can find it at your local grocer if you’re interested in checking it out. I’m guessing it’s new, it’s not even on the Ocean Spray website, that I could find.

I realize you don’t have time to read a lot and are too busy to care about Pringles, but you probably eat them from time to time. The reason I really give them the kind of coverage I do is because they have innovated over the years in a noticeable way. Some chips are basically getting by on cultural norms and store bribery. But with Pringles, they are actually doing something new quite often. They have a strict form factor, the ultra-delicate pressed potato flakes, and they traverse different continents with new powders and fun marketing. Some things they do stick, some don’t.
So I’ve read some bad reviews about the Mozzarella Sticks and Marinara version of the chip that I just happened to try myself today. What have I read? People don’t like them because they don’t taste like Mozzarella sticks with Marinara. ???? Boohoo crybabies. That is a horrible reason to give. Is there any chip that actually tastes like it’s name. Rarely and Barely. Same as when you pick out wall paint at the home store. They don’t call it white, they call it “Pearl Blossom” or “Ivory Fountain.” It’s the enticing name that promises a glimpse maybe. Another example, I’ve never had a barbecue chip that tasted like barbecue. If barbecue chips tasted anything like barbecue, I don’t think I would like them for one, and secondly what would be a reason to serve them with a barbecue meal? “I’ll have some of these chips that taste exactly like what I’m already eating.”
I’ll give the Pringles Mozzarella Sticks and Marinara chips a thumbs up, within the Pringles framework that is. Why not? Unfortunately, I’m morally obligated to give the overall Pringles a thumbs down for being the least necessary food on the planet, but if their aim in this particular flavor was to capture some essence of real cheese sticks and red sauce they succeeded just fine. I’ll also add that these are much better than the barbecue version of the chip and many others I avoid. How is it that the Pizza flavor has stuck around so long?
My open letter to Pringles: “Carry on”
I would have linked to the Pringles flavor on their website for you to take a peak, but they don’t have it listed.
Walkers has a pretty cool website. It’s a flash site that you can tell they spent a lot of resources to put together. And it’s pretty fun and useful. We thought this baked flavor they had was interesting and how they display the bag with the description and nutrition info is fancy, animated and helpful.

What a celebration. National Potato Chip day. Didn’t even know that existed. ChicagoNow.com has a slideshow of close to a hundred different chip kinds and flavors. Pretty cool. I wish I could have participated somehow.

We noticed a lot of Walkers Chips from the UK pictured in the gallery. We noticed a bag of their Tomato Ketchup flavor at a local grocery too. Not a flavor I’m interested in, but I thought it was amusing. They have quite a few going on, including one that gave me a double take, Cajun Squirrel. What? That rules. I’ll keep investigating that one.
